Per Inge Bjørlo

Norwegian artist Per Inge Bjørlo’s work has a strong evocative character. His sculptures, paintings and drawings appeal to our senses and bring out an instant feeling of discomfort. Even before registering what we are actually seeing, Bjørlo’s art makes an emotional impact. Glass, steel and cold, sharp materials are characteristic of Bjørlo’s sculptures. His paintings and prints have two dominant themes: bodies and faces, which are often full of pain and suffering representing an inner torture of anxiety. Bjørlo’s expressive style can not be described adequately without having experienced his imagery.

Per Inge Bjørlo visited the workshop in 2008 and made two portfolios Triptikon I and II containing three prints each. All six prints show a face in profile. The heads and faces seem to be going through a metamorphosis - as if something is breaking through and breaking out of the human skulls. At the same time there is something delicate about the blue and grey colors, Bjørlo has chosen for the brutal images.
