John Kørner

Danish artist John Kørner (b. 1970) deals with all kinds of problems in his paintings. This is how he expresses his approach him self. The problems concern both the content and his way of exploring the traditional media, painting. There is also a great deal of humour in his works. Traditional landscapes are combined with figurative motives, abstract expressive brushstrokes and light transparent layers of intense color. Also his passion for a bright yellow color is a recognizable almost iconic trademark. He experiments with various expressions and contemporary issues such as the Danish soldier's participation in the war in Afghanistan, but always with a twist, which makes the problems bearable or even ironic or tragi-comic.

John Kørner's visit at the workshop in 2008 resulted in 6 extraordinary linocut/lithographs. The 6 lithographs are the largest lithographs ever made in Denmark. This  combination of lithographic printing and linocut made it possible for John Kørner to create his large lithographs, which are furthermore furnished with a specially designed wooden frame by the artist him self. The theme of the works is in continuation of his treatment of everyday life problems and global issues. Poverty, ageing and how the West grew rich are depicted subtly and with a humorous touch.
