Jörg Immendorff
German artist, Professor Jörg Immendorff (b. 1945-2007) was a painter and sculptor. Much inspired by William Hogarth Immendorff never suppressed his need to express and question political and historical conditions. In 1977 Immendorff began his famous series, Café Deutschland, of 16 large paintings, where family and friends took roles in a political story about the conflict between East and West Germany. Whether serious or ironic Immendorff's sculptures and paintings always contain heavy symbolism and thought-provoking references to historic and political issues. He engaged in many projects such as opening a bar, La Paloma in Hamburg, he was an exponent of Neue Wilde and last but not least he brought attention to himself by living a Bohemian artist life. He was thrown out of the Academy in Düsseldorf for his radical left wing attitudes and hired as professor at the same Academy 30 years later.
