Antony Gormley

Over the last twenty-five years British Antony Gormley (b. 1950) has revitalised the human image in sculptural paintings. Through a radical investigation of the body as a place of memory and transformation, he uses his own body as subject and inspiration. Since 1990 he has expanded his concern with the human body to also explore the collective body and the relationship between self and large-scale installations. His understanding of the body is therefore not only personal. He expresses corporal issues trough an indexical language where the body is portrayed both specifically and in relation to abstract space.

Antony Gormley visited the workshop in 2007. During his stay he made ten lithographs that turned into a solo exhibition in the gallery space and a catalogue publication produced by Edition Copenhagen. Antony Gormley's interest in collaborating with different craftsmen was also evident during his work with the lithographic process. His curiosity to learn and take advantage of the lithographic technique resulted in a diverse production reflecting Gormley's oeuvre expressed within the graphic media.
